Why Summer is the Best Season for Lifestyle Photos

If you ask any professional family photographer they will tell you that the Fall is their busiest time of year, but is that really the best time to book your lifestyle portrait session?  Not for me.

The Fall is already crazy enough for my active family of 5. Between running a busy business, school schedules, kids’ activities, and all of the holidays that fall between Labor Day and the New Year, our calendar is jam-packed with ALL THE THINGS.

I’ve scheduled my own family photos in the summer for the past 2 years and it’s been so much more relaxed and fun, and now I can’t imagine doing it any other time of year.

Let’s get into WHY Summer is the best season for lifestyle photography….

Pros of Booking your Lifestyle Portrait Session in Summer

1. THINGS ARE A LOT LESS HECTIC

Parents tend to get overwhelmed during the fall months, which is why summer works so well. Summer is a time when everyone's schedules open up and life slows down just a little and you can enjoy a slower pace, longer days, and loads of sunshine.

2. SCHEDULES ARE A LOT MORE OPEN

Extended Families tend to gather in the summertime because their schedules are way less packed. Photographers’ schedules are also a lot more open because most families wait until the last minute to squeeze their annual family photos in the Fall. Plan on getting yours done in July or August - not only will you beat the crowds, but you will also likely have your pick of dates.

3. IT FEELS SO GOOD TO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT IN THE FALL

Every holiday season feels a little more frantic than the last, am I right? Take advantage of the summer and check holiday cards and gifts off your list early this year - you will feel so good. It will be one less thing for you to deal with during the frantic holiday season, and your loved ones will be happy to receive a little sunshine this holiday season.

As an added bonus, I will design your photo cards for free - just ask!

4. HAPPY FAMILY, HAPPY PHOTOS

There is mounting evidence from researchers around the globe that spending time in nature is linked to both cognitive benefits and improvements in mood, mental health, and emotional well-being.  Nice weather means outdoor photos, giving your children plenty of room to play and use up their energy. Summertime also lends itself well to adding a little adventure to your session.

5. LONGER DAYS, MORE GORGEOUS LIGHT

You don't have to worry about school so staying up a little later on a weeknight isn't a big deal. The days are longer this time of year, making more time for a relaxed portrait session in the beautiful golden light of evening without conflicting with work and daytime activities.

6. THE BEST MOMENTS HAPPEN IN SUMMER

Summer vibes are very chill. Everyone is more relaxed in the summer, and the days come a little easier. Families go on adventures together and gather from far and wide to celebrate and create memories that last a lifetime. I promise you will never regret inviting a photographer to capture and preserve these memories.

And nice weather means outdoor photos, giving you and your kiddos plenty of room to play, explore and burn off their energy before bedtime.

Summer is so special, and not just because the kids are out of school. It’s a season filled with long days on the water, warm nights by the campfire, and lots of time with friends and family.
